04/19/2025 Update: Discharge Date Confirmed

Image
Hello! We wanted to let you know that Path’s discharge date was confirmed for 23 April. We were surprised to find out that on our third appeal with our instance company the denial of care was overturned. Which was surprising and wonderful news. After speaking with her care team, they agree that she continues to make progress but what she ultimately needs is time. With TBIs it is impossible to put a definite timeline on recovery. Her team believe that by being at home, and close to her family and friends it will ultimately be beneficial for her. She will continue her therapies and we will continue to work towards her recovery. As she has proven over and over, she is a warrior. -Elizabeth On 04/22/24 Path and the SJHS Girls Rugby team hit the local news! Check it out below! 04/13/2025 Update: Will Path come home soon? (Maybe)

Image
Happy Sunday everyone! We wanted to give an update on how things are going - Path is doing well. She continues to work hard and make progress. The biggest question we are asked is: when is Path coming home?  The answer is complicated. While we’ve worked hard to continue to support Path during the past few months, this difficult situation has been made much worse by our insurance (administered by Healthscope/UMR on behalf of our employer) We’ve had 5 instances of Healthscope denying continued care for Path at MFB, all of which Path’s team appealed but our last denial was upheld and our insurance company stopped paying for Path’s care at MFB on 29 March. Healthscope has been an ongoing source of frustration and emotional distress that we could have done without.  Due to the amazing support from MFB, Path was given funding from the foundation at MFB to continue to continue her stay until 23 April.  So she will be potentially home very soon.  We are trying to get Path tr...

03/29/2023 Update: Family Time

Image
Today was a good day. For the first time since 6:55 am on 2 December our family was together again. It has been very difficult to explain to James, in a way that he understands, what happened to Path. Now that her surgery is over, and the staples are out, we were so excited to bring James for a visit. Path is currently pretty agitated, which is a part of the recovery process, but when she saw James her heart rate dropped and she calmed down. It was amazing to see the level of comfort and support James brought to Path. Also! The picture actually captured her smile! As I’ve been telling people since this happened, don’t forget to hug your kids. ♥️

03/26/25 Progress Update: Recreational Therapy

As Path continues her recovery, she has started recreational therapy. Last week she visited a cat cafe and this week she went out to a local bookstore. As all of her teachers know Path and her books are inseparable, and we are loving this part of her recovery.📚❤️

The Ramp Build: Day Two - Complete!

Image
Day 2 of the ramp build: the ramp is complete! It’s hard to put it in words the level of appreciation and gratitude we have for everyone. Thank you all for the hard work and taking time out of your own lives to help us. The completion of the ramp is a massive step towards getting Path home and we could not have done it without the dedication and hard work from so many people. While we cannot predict what the future will look like- with the love and support of such an amazing community we have no doubt we will be okay. ❤️♿️❤️
