04/13/2025 Update: Will Path come home soon? (Maybe)
The biggest question we are asked is: when is Path coming home?
The answer is complicated.
While we’ve worked hard to continue to support Path during the past few months, this difficult situation has been made much worse by our insurance (administered by Healthscope/UMR on behalf of our employer) We’ve had 5 instances of Healthscope denying continued care for Path at MFB, all of which Path’s team appealed but our last denial was upheld and our insurance company stopped paying for Path’s care at MFB on 29 March. Healthscope has been an ongoing source of frustration and emotional distress that we could have done without.
Due to the amazing support from MFB, Path was given funding from the foundation at MFB to continue to continue her stay until 23 April.
So she will be potentially home very soon.
We are trying to get Path transferred to a TBI rehabilitation facility called NeuroRestorative. But this would mean our insurance company would have to agree to the transfer, but we are not confident they will approve it.
While we are incredibly excited about Path’s return home, we understand she has a lot of needs right now. We are working with the outpatient team at Lakeland and also Riverwood to help coordinate therapies and continued care. We have had so many family and friends learning different aspects of Path’s care to help provide additional support for us during the transition home.
Despite the challenges, I am so incredibly grateful for our family and friends for their love and support. For the amazing team at Mary Free Bed who have been so wonderful and have fought for Path every step of the way. No matter what the next few weeks hold: I can’t begin to express our appreciation for the love and continued support from our community. We would not have made it this far without you all. ❤️
